Black Rock Marshes

Devils Bridge Wetland

Previously an ephemeral lake. After installation of a weir this area has become a permanent lagoon protected by a QEII covenant. It provides important habitat for many wetland bird species and is one of the few habitats of this type in North Otago.

Kakaho Creek Swamp

Kemp Road Lagoon

A shallow lagoon immediately inland from the mouth of Kemp Road Creek. 2 km Southeast of the intersection of Horse Range Road and Hampden-Palmerston Road, Moeraki.

Nenthorn Ridge Wetland Management Area

A wide variety of wetland types including a low turf ephemeral tarn, a medium turf ephemeral tarn, Purei wetlands, pools, bogs and moist red tussock (Chionochloa rubra) grasslands in a relatively small area on the upper slope and ridge crests of the Rolling Hills land system.

Paddys Rock Ephemeral Tarn

Description: A low turf ephemeral tarn on a broad ridge crest within the Rolling Hills land system. Type/Class: Marsh. Size: 0.7 ha. Altitude: 580 - 600 m above sea level. Red Bank Wetland Management Area

Copper tussock wetland and a low turf ephemeral tarn on the western ridge crest in the upper catchment of a tributary of the North Branch of the Waikouaiti River.

Shag Point Dam Margins

An area of saline swamp above coastal marine area at mouth of Shag River. Located south of the intersection of Walsh Road and Hampden-Palmerston Road, Palmerston.

Upper Waiareka Creek Swamp

Description: Upper Waiareka Creek Swamp. Type/Class: Swamp. Size: 0.4 ha. Altitude: 80 - 100 m above sea level. Approximate location: West of the intersection of Kanes Road and Weston-Ngapara Road, Ngapara. Waianakarua River Estuary Swamp

Te Hua Taki Wetland

Ecologically valuable groundwater spring (and possibly spring-fed stream) flax wetland. 1.4 km North of the intersection of Gibson Road and McPherson Road, Pukeuri Junction, Maheno.

Pleasant River Estuary Wetland Complex

Saltmarsh above coastal marine area near the mouth of Pleasant River. Located east of the intersection of Palmerston-Waikouaiti Road and Goodwood Road, Palmerston.

Tavora Wetland

The wetland at Tavora is a very small coastal lagoon, impounded behind a beach sand dune in association with the mouth of Tavora Stream.
