Enviroschools Matariki activities

Te Mātahi o te Tau

Term 3 starting at the time of Te Mātahi o te Tau – Māori New Year seems very fitting. This is a time to come together, honour those who have gone before us, celebrate the present and plan for the future.

We hope that you have been able to take some time to refresh and reflect over the break. You will find a few ideas for Matariki activities here and information about the upcoming Otago teacher Zoom hui.

Pepeha and mihi – Nō hea tātou

As we settle back into Term 3 reflecting on our pepeha and mihi is a great way to reconnect. The pepeha and mihi activity in the Enviroschools kit helps us consider where we are from, establish our connections with the natural world, and acknowledge the history and significance of places in our lives.

Check out the activity below.

Enviroschools Regional Teacher Hui

13 August, 3.30pm–5pm (via Zoom)

Mark this in your diary now. Please note the change in date from the one advertised earlier.

This is our first region-wide Zoom teacher hui. We are looking at the Enviroschools kaupapa of creating a healthy, peaceful, sustainable world through learning and taking action together.

Please share this with all staff at your school.

Join us at 3.20pm so we are ready to start at 3.30pm.

Enviroschools Weekly Challenges

You can still access all of the resources from last term's weekly challenges.

  • What if your Enviroschools grounds were a resource for your whole community?
  • What if you could make your lunch from what is growing on your Enviroschools grounds?
  • What if as many native birds as possible lived in your Enviroschools grounds?
