The Otago Regional Council is required under the Resource Management (National Environmental Standards for Air Quality) Regulations 2004 to report any breach of the ambient air quality standard.
The National Environmental Standard for 24-hour PM10 is 50 micrograms of particulate per cubic metre of air (mg/m3). PM10 concentrations in September 2014 exceeded the standard as follows:
Alexandra Air Quality
Exceedances: 3 September 58 mg/m3
Arrowtown Air Quality
Exceedances: 1 September 59 mg/m3
2 September 57µg/m3
3 September 53µg/m3
Cromwell Air Quality
Exceedances: 2 September 85 µg/m3
Milton Air Quality
Exceedances: 11 September 56 µg/m3
