New directors appointed at ORC

Friday 11 September 2015

Otago Regional Council chief executive Peter Bodeker today announced the appointment of two new directors to the ORC executive management team.

Scott MacLean is the new director of environmental monitoring and operations, while Caroline Rowe is the new director of stakeholder engagement.

Dunedin born-and-bred Mr MacLean, who took up his role on September 7, was previously operations manager in the environmental monitoring and operations directorate. He replaces Jeff Donaldson, who will move to Central Otago later this year and become ORC’s manager biosecurity and biodiversity.

UK-born Mrs Rowe, who starts in October, replaces Jane Leahy, who is returning to the private sector. Mrs Rowe was communications manager at Horizons Regional Council in the Manawatu from 2010 to 2013, and also has experience in the health and private sectors.

For the past two years, she has been project manager for the Land, Air, and Water Aotearoa (www.lawa.org.nz) website. The environmental monitoring website is a collaboration between New Zealand’s 16 regional councils, the Cawthron Institute, and the Ministry for the Environment.

Before joining ORC, Mr MacLean worked for the Dunedin City Council and prior to that, for the Department of Conservation on the West Coast and in Dunedin. His background is primarily in biodiversity, biosecurity, asset management, and contract management.

Mr Bodeker welcomed Mr MacLean and Mrs Rowe to the executive management team, and looked forward to their contribution to executive decision-making in the years to come.
