Otago Regional Council (ORC) has extended the closing date for public feedback on the plan change ‘Managing the amount of water in the Clutha River/Mata-au.’
The closing date was scheduled for Friday 19 January, however this has now been extended for a month to 19 February, allowing more time for people to have their say.
ORC Director of Policy Planning and Resource Management, Tanya Winter, said that there had been a number of requests from the public who were keen to submit their feedback but needed a little more time.
“An extension isn’t going to impact our project timeframes or delay any deliverables around the plan change, so it made sense to leave that window of opportunity open a little bit longer for people to provide their feedback,” she said.
This is the first stage of consultation on the ‘Managing the amount of water in the Clutha River/Mata-au’ plan change. The initial stage is geared around value setting and understanding how people use the river, its source lakes and tributaries from a recreational, social, economic and cultural perspective.
In the second consultation stage, which will take place in spring 2018, ORC will be asking for feedback on potential water management options. The third and final consultation stage will begin in autumn 2019, where the preferred management option will be presented to the public for feedback.
