Cabling work at Great King Street will take place over weekends starting 25 May, and the hub will function throughout with minimal disruption.
The Otago Regional Council (ORC) has established a schedule with Fulton Hogan, Delta and Aurora Energy to conduct the work on consecutive weekends starting Saturday, 25 May, but skipping Queen’s Birthday weekend (1-2 June). This schedule is weather-dependent.
ORC Manager Transport Gerard Collings said the work was planned to minimise disruption to stops, with services running as normal and no changes to the timetable.
“The bus hub will remain fully operational at all times, but certain stops will be temporarily out of use, meaning services will be reallocated to a different stop within the hub. We’ll be notifying any short-term reallocation of bus stops within the hub closer to the time, and these will only be in effect during the weekends while the work is taking place.”
The work will take place on the weekends of 25-26 May, 8-9 June, 15-16 June, and 22-23 June, depending on weather.
During the first weekend of work, on 25-26 May, stops B and C will be out of use, and services will be reallocated to stops A, D and E at the hub. Orbus Dunedin will share the details of how stops will be affected during future weekends closer to the time.
Mr Collings said, “During construction of the Hub a new duct was installed in the location. When it came time to install the cable in the new duct, it was discovered that two very short sections of the duct had not been constructed with the correct alignment and would need to be re-laid. In consultation with Aurora Energy, the Dunedin City Council and the contractors, it was agreed to undertake the works at this time over weekends.”
As the works are part of the initial design phase, there is no additional cost.
Stop reallocation changes will be notified at the hub and on buses.
