If you want to find out more about the Otago Regional Council’s plans for public transport over the next 10 years and have a say on that future, head over to the YourSay section of the ORC website to view the draft Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP).
The RPTP is a strategic document that guides the planning and delivery of public transport services and infrastructure in Otago. It sets out the vision, objectives and policies for our public transport system from 2021 to 2031.
The draft plan is open for consultation for three weeks, from 12pm on Monday 3 May, 2021 until 12pm on Monday 24 May, 2021.
You can submit your feedback via YourSay, email or post.
If you prefer to work in hard copy, copies of the draft plan will also be available at ORC offices, along with submission forms. Come and see us at our customer service desk on level 2, Philip Laing House, 144 Rattray Street, or call us on 0800 474 082 to get a copy sent to you.
Real time information and travel planning is now available at your fingertips as the Dunedin and Queenstown Orbus networks are live on Transit, the mobile phone travel app.
All Orbus buses are now fitted with GPS devices, which feed real-time bus arrival times through to Transit. You will be able to view the bus travelling along toward your stop.
The real time maps will also be available on our website beneath each route. Click on your route, whether in Dunedin or Queenstown, to see where your bus is.
• Download the Transit Realtime app free of charge from the App Store or Google Play for your phone
• Open the app
• It will find your location and the nearest buses
• The app will even recommend a bus to catch and the time it takes to get there
• Plan a journey, from start to finish – the app lets you know when to get off the bus
• Once you have selected a route, you will notice a star pop up. Tap the star to let Transit alert you of disruptions or cancellations on that route. You can choose to receive alerts at peak times or all times.
The Otago Regional Council is proud to collaborate with Unesco City of Literature and Hocken Collections in a project celebrating Dunedin’s heritage and the role of transport in our community.
Thirty unique heritage decals have been stickered on glass shelters across the Orbus network in Dunedin, ahead of the 2021 Readers and Writers Festival, running from today until Sunday (6-9 May 2021).
These images and excerpts reflect the stories and experiences of locals spanning decades, celebrating the adventures, advances, and antics of transport in our city, including cars, buses, trams, bicycles, motorbikes, horse-drawn buses, rail and – of course – Shanks’s Pony.
The decals will remain on the bus shelters, adding to the City of Literature material around the city to be enjoyed by locals and visitors.
