How are we doing?
In 2024/25, the rolling 10-year trend for nitrate concentration in monitored groundwater sites showed 20 per cent of sites decreasing, with 62 per cent of sites increasing and 18 per cent of sites showing no detectable change.
Target not met

What are we measuring and reporting

We report a 10-year trend of nitrate concentration in monitored groundwater sites to compare the percentage of sites with decreasing nitrate concentration to the percentage of sites with increasing concentration and record the percentage with no detectable change.

Baseline measure

In 2023/24, the rolling 10-year trend of nitrate concentration in monitored groundwater sites showed 17 per cent of sites decreasing, 59 per cent of sites increasing, and 24 per cent of sites showing no detectable change.

To meet the target

50 per cent or more of monitored sites will show decreasing nitrate trends.
