The Opportunity

We are looking for a Resilience Advisor to join our Emergency Management team on a permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week) basis, in our busy Dunedin office.

The purpose of this position is to develop effective community networks and activities across Otago. The role will manage the Group Welfare Manager portfolio during periods of response, ensuring Emergency Management Otago complies with legislation.

As a Resilience Advisor, you will be responsible for:

  • Develop and maintain community resilience networks across Otago, building strong relationships with stakeholders including iwi, partner agencies, and vulnerable communities
  • Manage the Group Welfare Manager portfolio during emergencies, remaining on-call and ensuring compliance with the CDEM Act 2002
  • Facilitate the WCG and RAG committees, supporting work planning and readiness, while maintaining the Group's Assurance Framework aligned with national standards
  • Plan and deliver training programmes for staff, volunteers, and partner agencies, including school emergency preparedness in vulnerable communities
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on group capability across the 4Rs, ensuring legal compliance and keeping leadership informed on a no-surprises basis

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in emergency management/development, organisational management, planning and development or community development (consideration will be given where extensive experience and/or relevant qualifications)
  • Experience within the CDEM sector or community development or related field
  • Community engagement experience, welfare experience, particularly at a leadership level
  • Ability to translate and communicate complex information to a range of stakeholder’s groups, including political leaders
  • A passion for the development of community resilience
