Public notice is hereby given pursuant to S.95A Resource Management Act 1991 that the following application for resource consent has been received by Otago Regional Council.
To discharge up to 1,800,000 litres per day of treated municipal wastewater to land. The proposal is a discretionary activity under Rule 12.A.2.1 and Rule 12.B.4.1 of the Regional Plan: Water for Otago.
Purpose: To discharge treated municipal wastewater to land for the purpose of disposal of wastewater from Kingston Township
Location: Kingston, approximately 1 kilometre south west of the intersection of the intersection of Kingston Garston Highway (State Highway 6) and Kent Street at about NZTM 1263429E 4970206N (centre point discharge field 1) and NZTM 1264112E 4969779N (centre point discharge field 2).

Reasons for public notification: The Council must publicly notify an application if the activity will have or is likely to have adverse effects on the environment that are more than minor. It is considered that the effects on the environment will be more than minor for the following key reasons:
The Council is also required to notify an application if special circumstances applies. Special Circumstances apply due to likely significant public interest in the consent.

Any person may make a submission on the application, but a person who is a trade competitor of the applicant may do so only if that person is directly affected by an effect of the activity to which the application relates that:
(a) adversely affects the environment; and
(b) does not relate to trade competition or the effects of trade competition.
